RALEIGH COUNTY, WV — Another chapter has been added to the long-running controversy surrounding donations raised in the name of the Whittaker family, and this one comes with handcuffs.
On Tuesday, John Patrick Roark, commonly known as Patrick Roark, was arrested and arraigned in Raleigh County, West Virginia, following a months-long investigation into alleged fraud and financial exploitation connected to the Whittaker family.
According to confirmed court and law enforcement information, Roark is facing 11 felony charges, including:
-
5 counts of financial exploitation of an incapacitated person
-
5 counts of fraudulent schemes
-
1 count of fraudulent use of an access device
Investigators say the charges stem from allegations that money and resources donated for the benefit of the Whittaker family were improperly used. The investigation, led by West Virginia State Police, began in 2025 after concerns were raised about how donations and merchandise were being handled.
During arraignment, Roark’s bond was set at $150,000. He declined a court-appointed attorney, stating he plans to hire private legal counsel.
Social media reports claim Roark was ordered by a judge not to contact members of the Whittaker family, and that he made a remark in court saying, “It’s a good day in West Virginia, isn’t it?” However, those specific details have not yet been independently confirmed in official court records or mainstream reporting.
There have also been online claims that Roark was bailed out by a family member, but as of the latest verified update, he was still being processed and remained held on bond.
Authorities previously urged anyone who donated money or sent goods intended for the Whittaker family to come forward, as the investigation continues to expand.
As always, these are allegations, and Roark is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. TVOTT Hillbilly News will continue following this case as court records, hearings, and official filings become available.
One thing is clear: this situation is no longer just internet talk. It’s now firmly in the hands of the justice system.
